Online Marketing Success Training Camp – Day 19 – How to Use the Power of Twitter

Hi and welcome back to another session at the Online Marketing Success Training Camp!

TWITTER is our topic today. People twitter all over, 140 characters to give strong statements is the whole story about it, so tiny and still so powerful.

How can this be and how can you use this to your advantage?

Well, I have been working quite a bit on social networks and cursing around twitter and now want to share my learnings and some more tips with you:

What is TWITTER?

“What we have to do is deliver to people the best and freshest most relevant information possible. We think of Twitter as it’s not a social network, but it’s an information network. It tells people what they care about as it is happening in the world.” (Evan Williams)

WIKIPEDIA.org states as follows: Twitter is a social networking and microblogging service that enables its users to send and read messages known as tweets. Tweets are text-based posts of up to 140 characters displayed on the author’s profile page and delivered to the author’s subscribers who are known as followers. Senders can restrict delivery to those in their circle of friends or, by default, allow open access. Since late 2009, users can follow lists of authors instead of following individual authors. All users can send and receive tweets via the Twitter website, Short Message Service (SMS), or external applications (notably including those developed for smartphones). While the service itself costs nothing to use, accessing it through SMS may incur phone service provider fees. The website currently has more than 100 million users worldwide.

Since its creation in 2006 by Jack Dorsey, Twitter has gained notability and popularity worldwide. It is sometimes described as “SMS of the Internet.” The use of Twitter’s application programming interface for sending and receiving text messages by other applications often eclipses direct use of Twitter.

Twitter – it is now time to set up your twitter account – if you have none available yet. Do not forget to place a profile picture as people do NOT like following people without a face … true statement and supported by statistics!
I have checked out the following in addition:

  1. Tweetdeck shows you all that is happening on your twitter account right on your desktop
  2. Tiny.cc is a great place to “hide” your affiliate links and also to see where your traffic comes from
  3. TweetLater kind of speaks for itself – allows you to prepare messages to be sent at a specific time, etc …
  4. TWOLLO is also called the “bread & butter” of the various twitter application tools as it allows you to find people based on areas of interest and on keywords …
  5. Ping.fm is another fantastic place I was not able to resist as it allows you to feed the status and short messaging not only on twitter but also on facebook, myspace and so on – I have linked all my networks to this one feed form!
  6. In addition, make sure to check out the wordpress plugin for your blog posts to be twitter about straight away!

Make sure that all your content is relevant and powerful in expression. You have 140 characters to attract people. Check out the different tools to building up your twitter community and make sure to sharing with them content and insight on your work and products every day! Quality goes of quantity – be concrete and precise. See it as your elevator pitcj vs a marketing plan – this could be the shortest way to explain the difference between twitter and facebook – which we will discuss next time!

To your success
